MUSIC VIDEO

Textual Analysis of our own product:

The video begins with the girls from the band walking backstage in sets of twos- as if they are about to go and perform on stage. The girls are walking with confidence and attitude, and this is portrayed by the use of the high angle camera shot and bright lighting on their faces/physiques.
This high angle shot is used progressively throughout the video as well as a low angle shots, close ups, long shots, over the shoulder shots, wide shots and medium close ups- all of which add meaning and narrative to the video.

The way in which the girls are costumed are provocative, yet stylish. Each member of the band are dressed uniquely to emphasise their individuality, and individual shots whilst performing also express this individuality, as the members have very different singing voices.

The narrative of the video is clear- none of the girls will be 'impowered' or 'tied down' by a man. We wanted to represent 'girl-power' for the female audience within our target audience in order for them to emphasise with what the girls are trying to convey with the use of the lyrics and performance. However, we wanted to keep the theme of exhibitionism within the video for the remaining male audience as during research we found out that exhibitionism is a very popular theme within female artists/bands.

The genre of the video matches our first decision that we decided upon after our audience completed a questionnaire about their favourite styles of music. Rock/Pop came out on top so we have made sure that this has been kept consistent all the way through the video. The girls' costuming, song lyrics and song tempo represent this.

The colour scheme has also been kept consistent throughout. Our house colours of black, white and red have been clearly displayed in the video. For example the use of black and white backgrounds and the girls' black and red clothing and hair colour which is originally why the band name 'Scarlet Avenue' was created.
